Communication

The Seminole Texas Amateur Radio Club offers these links so that amateur radio operators may take advantage of digital modes. We offer no warranty, nor assume any responsibility, for the any of the software here. Users should take all precautions when downloading software, even from known sources, as a compromised server can lead to the distribution of malware. Sometimes anti-malware software will produce false positive results on a package. Checking with the developer when you get a positive result for malware in a package is strongly advised.

fldigi: Once you click on the link, click on files and then choose the directory for the package you wish to install. The packages below are ones some of our members have installed for use themselves. The links are to the download directories:

  • flrig: This is a rig control package, supported by many applications. It is highly recommended.
  • fldigi: This is the multi-protocol software package that is the Swiss army knife of amateur radio software.
  • flmsg: NBEMS messaging system.
  • flamp: Amateur Multicast Protocol (file transfer program).
  • flwrap: file encapsulation/compression.

APRS: Our members use one of two software packages for APRS operations and are listed below:

  • APRSISCE32: An older but very stable and functional windows software package.
  • YAAC: A java based, multi-platform, extremely powerful, and expandable software package.

Slow Scan TV allows an operator to send pictures using the radio.

  • MMSSTV: Slow Scan TV software for windows. This is older software but very stable.
  • MMSSTV-YONIQ: This is a fork of the original software above from another developer. It is being actively developed. I have not figured out how rig control works currently, and it’s installation and initial usage is in spanish.

VARA HF: Some of our members use the VARA HF software modem for Winlink Express and/or VarAC chat.

Winlink Express: Winlink Express is a radio email application.

Keyboard to Keyboard Chat: While this capability exists in fldigi, it deserved it’s own section. Below you will find newer, and arguably more popular, alternatives.

  • VarAC: A radio based keyboard to keyboard chat solution that is rapidly gaining popularity.
  • JS8Call: A keyboard to keyboard chat program originally based on the automated FT8 protocol.

WSJT-X: WSJT-X is the best package for the FT8 and FT4 protocols. Other protocols include FST4, JT4, JT9, JT65, Q65, MSK144, WSPR, FST4W and Echo.
